Hi and welcome to my violin studio! With a current 15 student body, students of all ages, levels, and backgrounds study violin through online or in-person private lessons, learning skills that will last a lifetime!

My studio consists of people who are friendly and eager to help each other through the process of learning a skill that is simultaneously difficult and rewarding.

Each lesson will consist of 30% technique and 70% repertoire practice to prepare for performances. All students participate in three yearly online recitals, and are encouraged to take their practice beyond recitals, to perform in their school orchestra, a youth orchestra, or violin club.

My teaching style is all about making the experience with the violin a fun and productive time. I always ask my students about their day before jumping into playing which encourages dialogue and for the student to know this is their own time to learn, not a shared time like in a school classroom.

After playing through their assigned scales or repertoire I correct mistakes quickly and efficiently, and spend time ironing out any technical limitations the student may have from previous lessons. Students will usually learn one piece per semester and perform it at the recital, requiring them to play at a high level in front of their peers.

In lessons students learn from Suzuki Books 1-3, Sitt Studies, Kreutzer Etudes, Schradiek Excercises, Jazz standards, the Fiddlers Fake Book, Rieding and Seitz Violin Concertos, Hymnal books and more

Younger students must learn through a standard approach such as the Suzuki method which offers them the opportunity to grow as violinists at a high level by building a strong foundation

Adult students are given more freedom to choose what they like to learn, within parameters according to their technical level

Recitals are held three times a year, in May, August, and December and are conducted online through Zoom. Students enjoy playing for each other and get multiple chances to comment positively on their peers.

Recital attendance is required unless emergencies arise, and if a student cannot attend, they are required to send in a video of their final piece which will be played for the studio and commented.

• Students will learn how to read, name and play the notes on sheet music. Students will start by learning where to put all four left hand fingers on the string, and then be able to read each of those notes on the music staff.

• Students will learn how to distinguish quarter notes, eight notes, sixteenths notes etc through visuals, and then play these rhythms on their violin with the bow as written in the music.

• Students will learn how to produce a great sound on their violin by holding the bow correctly, and sustaining their bow through full strokes up and down the strings.

• Students will learn how to play major and minor scales and arpeggios, starting with 1 octave, going to 3 octaves.

• Students will learn how to connect two notes on one bow without stopping the bow, to create a smooth sound such as a singer would be able to create.

• Students will learn how to play quick notes and succession for virtuosic flare, aiding them in orchestra where this skill is often necessary.

• Intermediate students will learn how to shift up the neck of the violin, and name each position they are on.

• Intermediate students will learn a relaxed vibrato, to be added to all their playing after the skill is added to their routine.

• Intermediate students will learn how to play two, three, or four notes at once, in tune (double stops or chords) for added flare in their playing.

I have taught for 10 years both privately and at institutions such as the West Island Music Academy in Montreal CA, the Vivace Chamber Players in Seattle WA, at Trala inc. Online Violin School, and Tunelark Online Music School. In the past 10 years, I have taught about 120 students ages 3-80 and have coached teens in small chamber music groups at the vivace chamber players summer music festival for 3 years.

My students have gone on to win excellence awards in their school Solo and Ensemble competitions, win first chairs in school orchestra, and many students who began lessons with me are able to join their school or youth orchestras within months such as Mahroos, who started violin with me in 2024 for one summer, and started playing in his school orchestra only 4 months after starting violin!
